Lifeguard Mini 1 Portable Charger Review

March 11, 2015 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

lifeguard Portable ChargerEver been out on the road, hiking, or anywhere where you can’t plug your phone in and had your battery go out on ya? Well I have many times! Especially when Im out for a day at swap meets and garage sales and use my phone constantly for scanning goodies to buy. This puts a drain on my iPhones battery and Im not always able to plug into the car charger. Thats where a portable charger or battery backup really comes in handy.

When I got the chance to review the +LIFEGUARD MINI 1 External Power Bank I jumped at the chance!

One thing I love is that it can get your device 100%  charged in Under 2 hours.  It was doing about 1% every minute or so. I also love that it has a tough aluminum shell which makes it impact resistant.  When the device arrived I was happy to find that it included 2 cables. One for charging the device itself and another lighting cable for charging newer Apple products. It has two ports as well, of course one for charging and one for connecting your phone to. It has a single LED on the side that will be red when the battery is charging or blue when you are charging your phone. No buttons to press just plug your device into the batter and it starts to charge.

Here are some of their own specs:

● Smart plug & play Samsung grade A cell battery.
● Real 3000mAh capacity – full charge your phone and still have juice.
● Quick charge – get your device 100% charged in 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
● 5.9in Apple compatible lightning cable INCLUDED.
● Tough aluminum shell makes it impact resistant.
● Can be recharged more than 800 times.
● CE, ROHS and FCC certified.

You can get get a +LIFEGUARD MINI 1 External Power Bank in on of four colors (Black, Blue, Pink or Silver) from Amazon now on sale for $21.97 (as of this posting) and have shipped free with your prime account.

Freebie Friday: Garage Sale App

January 23, 2015 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

Garage Sale AppI’ve had many questions recently on how do I find garage sales to treasure hunt at. Well I use two apps which I will check the night before to see what sales I’d like to hit up.

Garage Sales by GSALR.com

This app has been my go to app for a long time. It pulls ads from Craigslist, yardsales.net, oodle.com, estatesales.org  and its own website gsalr.com. So may have a few more sales then the other apps I’ve tried, that’s why I liked it. When you first open it shows you a map with a little blue dot showing your current location. All the red little signs shown around you are sales! You can set a filter to only show you the sales on a certain day of the current week as well (don’t want to show up at a location for a sale that wont be happing for a few days).

You can then click on each sign to pull up the ad to see if it sounds good, then click favorite (little heart) if it’s one you are interested in. After you have picked some you can then filter the map to just show your favorites. Then I just click on the one I want and get directions, which works just like any map app.

Some of the other cool features are the viewing options. You can see all the sales on a map of course and to me that works the best. But you can also view as a list or by photos (kinda cool if you are looking for something special). You can even add a sale that you found by another method and is not shown.

Another neat feature is that that you can search by keywords. Say if you are looking for hmmmm, legos? Type in legos and it will bring up all the garage sales in your area that mention legos. How cool is that?

The free version has an ad at the top and within the garage sale detail page but it has never bothered me. If you don’t like it they offer a subscription to remove the ads.

Skiva Lightning Port Car Charger Review

January 21, 2015 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

skiva lighting port chargerI use my iPhone a lot out on the road. Especially on the weekends when hitting garage sales. Nothing is worse when I need to research an item and my phone has died. So having a good car charger for my iPhone is a must. This little charger from Skiva is exactly what I needed.  The 2.1 Amp charges my phone quick and without any problems. The charger fits in very snug to the cigarette lighter so no worries about the charger pulling out. I also love the design of the USB charger, looking like other Apple products and has a nice bright blue LED on the side when it has power. It’s compact size also means that it is out of the way and doesn’t protrude out and block my accessory tray.

Features:

  • Apple MFi Certified Car Charger contains an authorization chip issued by Apple which communicates with any Lightning connector device to ensure 100% Compatibility and no Warning Messages.
  • You can rest assured that it will not break with Apple’s firmware updates and it supports latest iOS 8. Lightning Fire C-1 has intelligent charging circuit design for over-heat, over-current & over-charging protection.
  • 2.1A / 10W rating supports fast charging for iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Air, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPod touch (5th generation) and iPod nano (7th generation).
  • 3.2 feet / 1 meter integrated lightning cable with Slimmest 8.5mm x 4.8mm (0.33in x 0.19in) lightning connector head, specially designed to work with virtually all cases including OtterBox cases, Lifeproof cases etc. It can be used with devices without removing case.
  • Lightning Fire C-1 is one of the World’s most compact (1.8 x 1.0 x 0.8 in) car chargers in the market with 2.1 Amp rating. It’s strong & sturdy construction assures very long life unlike many other cheap chargers that can come apart in a few weeks of use.
  • No Noise in Audio Playback While Charging. Ships directly from Amazon’s Warehouse, so our products are delivered safe and quickly. It comes with 1 Year Hassle Free Warranty and full support from Skiva, so you can purchase with confidence.

This charger supports all of this and as of now I have not had a single problem yet. You can buy the Skiva Lighting Port Charger now on Amazon for only $16.99… A great deal for something that works so well.

Book Review: Haven Series Collection

May 9, 2014 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

Haven by D.C. AkersDisclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I received a the Haven Series books to read and review but since my wife is an English teacher and actually reads I’d let her have a stab at it. The follow post will be her first on this site but hopefully not the last. This book should be more entertaining then the health books I have reviewed.

As a 9th grade English teacher, I am constantly on the lookout for books to recommend to my students, particularly books that can capture the imagination and promote a love of reading. I found the Haven story to be a well-written adventure/fantasy/sci-fi that
grabs the reader from the first page and does not release.

Some stories of these genre can have parts that drag and can lose the reader. Haven moves at a clipped pace that makes putting the books down very difficult. I have literally fallen asleep late at night with my iPad on my face because I tried to keep reading and my tired brain simply gave out. Haven does not disappoint and I am recommending it to several of my students, as I also recommend it to you now. Reading level is between grades 6-9, although my 5th grade daughter could handle it as she is an advanced reader.

If you enjoy Piers Anthony, JK Rowling, or Terry Brooks, you will find D.C. Akers added to your list of favorites.

You can grab your copy of Haven Books one and two here on Amazon for your Kindle or any device with the Kindle app, Haven Series Collection

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Hyperbiotics Pro-15 Probiotics

May 2, 2014 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

Hyprerbiotics Pro-15

If you have followed me here you know I have suffered from LPR Gerd for awhile. I have spent the past few years trying to find a balance of medication and diet to keep it under control with some success. My latest trial is with probiotics. I have tried probiotics with things like Good Belly shots and juice but even though I loved them it got to be to expensive to make a daily habit.

Most of you may already know the benefits of loading up your gut with the good bugs provided by probiotics to battle the evil forces of bad bugs. There are tons of articles out there talking about this and I’m not here to repeat them nor am I any type of expert. Just do the google thing to find out more how probiotics can be good for your health.

Hyperbiotics Pro-15

Hyperbionics Cap

Im I a nerd for loving this?

What I am here to talk about is this new probiotic that I was asked to give a try, Hyperbiotics Pro-15. Ive been  taking Hyperbiotics Pro-15 now for a little over two weeks and so far I’m happy with it. Starting with the little things such as the bottle design, yes the bottle itself. I love that it has a little teardrop opening that  will allow just one pill to roll out it a time. I’m just weird that way I guess I just think that’s cool.

The pill itself is nifty as well. It just a little round ball pack with 5 billion little bugs to help you with a healthy gut. I always wondered how they count these things, I mean what if mine only has 4,999,999,999? Anyway this ‘pearl’ as they call it is so small compared to other probiotics it amazing how they get all them in there. It’s only 1/4″ in diameter compared to some of the other horse pills out there that can be an inch long. They are also time released and protected from your stomach acids as well as being gluten/lactose/soy free and 100% vegetarian.

You can read all the details about it on their own website at Hyperbiotics.com I’m not going to copy and paste them here. I’ll just tell you how it has benefited me. Well the biggest benefit appears to benefit everyone, just ask the wife (TMI alert). With the meds and my stomach issue I have had some wicked gas and since starting Hyperbiotics and has almost dissappeared. I have also experienced  improved digestion and appetite. I will say on the first couple days I did experience some cramping but it may have been other factors like I hadn’t been taking my stomach meds (damn insurance) or it was just a big battle between the new forces for good and the old bad bugs. Either way everything is great now.

Oh and these guys don’t require refrigeration. Just keep in a cool dry place, so I guess if you live in Arizona it does require it, and is guaranteed shelf life of 18 months. This is great for me cause if it’s not on my desk on front of me in the morning I will most likely forget to take it.

If you are interested in trying this little pearls yourself you can find Hyperbiotics Pro-15 on Amazon where Prime members can get it shipped free!

Disclosure: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. Always check with your physician before starting any supplement product.
