Just wanted to post a little recap and update on whats going on. Its been 8 weeks now since I started Lexapro for the anxiety (7 weeks for other meds) and I can say that I really havent had an anxiety/panic episode since week two. With one exception, about a week ago for my son’s graduation I did have a mild episode but it was no where near where it was in the past. Was able to go and even though I wanted to bolt from the crowded stands a couple times I used breathing techniques and was able to make it through.
On the stomach front I can say since week 3 I havent had really any issues except one weekend when I kinda deviated from the diet a bit. As far as acid reflux, the past 2-3 weeks I havent had any real breathing issues and only a minor cough once in awhile. I think I will stop taking the Priolsec here after this current batch is gone.
Also stopped the statins a couple weeks ago and will get a cholesterol test done next week from Henry’s. Dont know how accurate those are but we’ll see, will see doctor in another month or so for testing there.
Diet has changed to mainly a plant based diet. Don’t like to say vegan cause I still do chicken 2-3 times a week, still have yogurt once in awhile and still haven’t kicked cheese (although only doing feta which is supposed to be better). Cooking most of my meals from whole foods and even the frozen type are scrutinized for fat and cholesterol content. Added a probiotic to the diet in the morning and even do a digestive enzyme supplement before lunch and dinner.
Speaking of supplements I have been doing a D3 and CoQ10 in the morning and in the evening B complex and B12. Also doing 1200mg Fish oil morning and evening.
One of the biggest changes has been slowing down the workload and making more time for myself. This has also included make to for being active and exercise. Started off about 6 weeks ago walking each evening 5-6 times a week up to 4 miles. This has been on relatively flat course with a couple hills and at a brisk pace to get heart rate about 110-120. This past week I’ve added in Cowles mountain 🙂 which is about 3 miles round trip and gets my heart rate up to 140 going up it. Also added weights twice a week starting last week.
All this together has made me feeling pretty damn good, with more energy most of the time. Hope to be off all the meds soon and continue the rest, get my weight up a bit and hang around till I’m at least 100!
I will continue to update this blog with tips, recipes and healthy ideas I find in my research to stay healthy myself. Hope you will follow and give me your input and stories as well.
