State of the Health Update

January 13, 2015 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

2c5898aefc8b7c65b396bb9edd956ae2I haven’t written about health issues in ages so I thought Id just do a little update, more for me to get out how Im feeling but fro anyone who has been following me and my big this is whats up.

Overall I will say I have been feeling better an many ways, improvements over what I felt several years ago. Still confused on some and in other areas new developments have occurred. Even though I have backslide in a lot of my efforts things are still going well and trying to get back on track to maybe improve even more.

Anxiety

My big issue with General Anxiety Disorder seems to be well in hand. Used to be I’d wake up with sever anxiety and be hard to even get out of bed. Nowadays its pretty rare and if I do have anxiety a case can typically be pointed to. Using coping mechanisms I can handle it most of the time. Im not sure if its the meds, a new state of mind or some of both that is helping. I am currently taking the Effexor twice a day, but that was actually prescribed for the Fibro pains. Funny thing is that Fibro pain is actually a secondary effect for this drug and it is mainly prescribed for anxiety and depression. Eh what ever works.

I have also been doing my walks and meditations and I think this helps the most. Along with deep breathing often throughout the day (weather I need it or not)

LPR Acid Reflux

This has been a fun one and actually don’t know where I stand. Last year I was put on a new acid reducer called Dexilant and I loved it. Only had to take once a day and didn’t have to time with meals. Looking back I feel it was actually doing a good job. Of course with any new drug that actually works insurance has to screw with you. No generic and it was quite expensive and of course not covered. After fighting with them the final agreed but only covered a portion. Then got a card from the pharmaceutical that reduced a bit more but my co pay was still $48 for 30 days. In these tight times I couldn’t do this long, plus had to fight insurance a couple more times and it just wasn’t worth it. While trying to go back to the old meds had to do another round with insurance over dosage. Funny thing is this dosage was already approve before the Dexilant and had been doing it for quite awhile. So I had been off and on the drugs and during the off times I could definitely notice the difference, with heart burn and sore throats occurring all the time.

Now back on the twice a day, before meals, my throat has been sweeping and sore more often so a little concerned again. Of course after insurance approved the first 30 days I sit here waiting for approval again for my refill, all out again. I do have me next appointment tomorrow where Im pretty sure I will be getting my next endoscopy scheduled, haven’t had one in over a year and a half.  My first one was in midst of my severe anxiety episodes so going to a hospital to have a camera shoved down into my stomach was lots of fun. But now its not a big deal, I actually want to do it to stay on top of any problems.

Fibromyalgia

I still wonder at time if this is a correct diagnoses, especially those days where I feel great 😉 Well maybe Ill find out more soon. I was supposed to have a follow up visit in December with my rheumatologist and was looking forward to it because I have been having increase joint pain, especially in the wrists (couple days I couldn’t even use my left hand) but guess what? Yes Insurance!! Well kind of. My primary had switched medical groups so they were no longer covered or worked with this new group. So I had to go back to my primary and get a referral for a new rheumatologist and most likely be starting over. My primary even said they should do a new blood work up and x rays, etc. Which is good, been awhile since the vampires took my blood and I never had any X-rays. Last rheumatologist typically would just push a prescription on me when I had a new concern so looking forward to a new doctor and a fresh look. Problem is I forgot the date, I know its in February…

Well in seeing the primary she though my Gabapentin does was to high and most likely part of my fatigue (rheumatologist kept telling me to increase it) so she told me to back it down to 300mg a day. We will see how that plays out but so far not sure. This week the arms and legs have been pretty bad. I had thought I just was over doing it physically but after a day of rest Sunday its still there. Ill keep up with the 300 until I see the new doctor.

So thats it in a nut shell. Seem to be having more good days than bad, hoping this is the trend going forward. Need to get diet and other routines back on track to ensure it does. Hope you all are doing well with whatever ails you.

Here’s to improved health to all!
