Fibromyalgia, A Cause Found?

Fibromyalgia Cause

An article was posted in the Washington Times Communities a week or so ago about how a couple of Doctors doing research and a study have found the cause of Fibromyalgia. Little googling and you can find the actual press release was back in June on the company’s website.

Their research in a nut shell (at least as I understand it) believes the cause comes from AV shunts in our hands and feet. These little guys act as thermostats to regulate temperature in our extremities. Doing this by controlling blood flow, which not only cools and heats but brings nutrients and takes away the trash from our muscles. When these do not work right temperature can go haywire affecting nerves and muscles, thus giving the multitude of Fibromyalgia symptoms. Also can cause build up of lactic acid in the muscles causing pain that can travel through out the body and overall fatigue.

It sounds interesting, and plausible to me with how I have felt. The biggest take away I see for those with fibromyalgia is that there is a cause and it is real, it is not just in your head as some would have you believe.

Just wanted to get this out there in case others with fibro haven’t seen it. Along with the article in July  about there is now a blood test for Fibromyalgia, there is hope and people are working on it!

News Release: Fibromyalgia not in your Head

If you have Fibromyalgia what do you think about a cause being found?

I’ve been dealing with it for 3 years now. It has really hurt income so that’s why I decided to do eBay, because I can work it around bad days in addition to my portrait drawing business.

The newest educated guess is that Fibromyalgiais small fiber neuropathy. That sounds like what I feel too.

Like you, I was elated not only for myself, but for the many people who have Fibromyalgia and have been afraid to say it out loud or write it — for fear of rejection, for fear of being thought to be “crazy,” for fear of employers knowing, for fear of being denied life insurance policies etc. We just have to speak out and be counted, especially men…Iike you have done here. I applaud you. I bet there are many more men suffering and they’re concerned about being perceived as weak.

My heart breaks for people who have had this for 10-20+ years. Nothing I’ve ever dealt with in life has beaten me down physically, mentally, spiritually as FM has. I try to keep a sense of humor about it. There are worse things I could have.

Love your blog. So glad I clicked here from the FB group.

That really does make sense. I’m happy to know that I’m not just being weak, so to speak. It is a real thing. My symptoms just seem to be getting worse though. It’s weird.
