My Delayed Fitbit Review

January 9, 2014 by Jeff Davidson Leave a Comment

fitbit flexI’ve been using a fitbit flex for about 6 months or longer now and decided to throw my two cents out there in a short and sweet review. What is a fitbit you ask? Well its one of many wearable fitness trackers. You wear it on your rest and it basically measures how far you walk in a day, even tracks how you sleep at night. With this data it can help you stay on track and become more healthy.

There are tons of reviews out there going over every feature of the device and its accompanying website so I’m not going to do that. Ill just tell you that I have love just about everything about it. I wear it 24/7 (except when charging) and check often to see how close I am to getting to my step goal of the day. Often heading out for a short walk just so I can make the goal. One of the best things is the alarm feature that I use to remind me to take my drugs (ok meds). So on function alone i’ll sell you one no problem.

The Problem With my Fitbit

Ok I did say JUST about everything was loved so lets get into the couple things I don’t and which you won’t hear on most reviews. The biggest is the wristband itself. Dont get me wrong it is comfortable to wear and love that you get 2 sizes and its adjustable.

The thing is they tell you you can wear in in the shower, swimming and in the water anytime. Well my experience this would not be a good idea, maybe I’m in the water to much I don’t know. What I do know is that the adhesive they use to to attach the band together (right above the black led line) doesn’t seem to hold well with what I am assuming is a lot of water use. It may be that Im in hot water often as I am in a hot tub many times during the week to help with chronic pain issues. I am also in a pool often as well so maybe its the chlorine? If its not meant to be used in this manner then there should be more of a warning (unless I missed it somewhere) instead of just saying its ok to wear in the water.

My first band fell apart within the first 2-3 months. They offered to replace it if I could produce the receipt, but sorry I don’t keep those that long (clean my pockets out after a week or two). So I just started using the second band. The second band is now showing stress and coming apart in the same place so ill have to purchase another band soon which of course seem to be available only online.

Besides this I love it and will continue to try and use it. Just wanted you to be aware of this little flaw when considering which one you will purchase, it may have me looking at an UP or some other one that comes out this year that is of one piece construction.

How about you, whats your experience with your fitbit or other fitness device?
