I like panda’s not the point of this post but just putting it out there. This is a lesson on being sure to do your keyword research. Both on developing your own niche site and if you are looking at purchasing a site. This falls under lessons learned for myself. early last month I found this site on Flippa.com in a self help niche. It was already ranking page 1 I think (at least page 2) and I thought great! Its a popular topic should get lots of traffic and make some money, so I bought it. Since then it has moved up to #1 on google for its keywords and I was excited, but the traffic and therefore the money never came in.
After the fact I have run it through Market Samurai to check it out and was disappointed. The good news was that the adsense value was $1.45 a click, bad news is that it only gets 210 exact searches a month. Now Market Samurai does say that a site ranking #1 (which it is) should get 3 visits a day and should equate to $4.20 in revenue. Im finding that you should take this info lightly. Right now in the past 30 days it has only received 33 visits.
You never know though in time maybe it will start making money, Id be happy with that $4 a day 🙂 Next step I guess is to add some more content targeting some other keywords in the niche. I’m also going to play with the theme and tweak ad locations and just see what happens.
Now I am sure to run each site I’m considering through Market Samurai as well as any keywords I’m considering in developing my own sites. Im looking for nothing less then 1800 exact match monthly searches (ok I may consider down to 1000 with other good factors). If you look at it these numbers and consider if you are in the top 3 on google you should get about 20% of these numbers to your site (360), although research shows this to be as high as 60% but im being conservative. And if lucky 1% of these will convert to monetary conversions (36). So 36 visitors clicking your adsense or buying your affiliate product would be a good thing and a good goal for me.
So the moral of today’s story boys and girls is when buying a site on Flippa or getting ready to develop your own, do your research and see if it is indeed a viable site to pursue.
Oh like the panda? 🙂 when searching for an image I mostly came across South Parks panda, but fell in love with this one… its more my kinda panda. Illustrated by David Aguilar check out his site aguilaranimation.com.
