What can I say? I used to be very active. In the marines, rock climbed, worked out, skated, played hockey. Had a steady job for over 20 years. Have a great family as well. Never really knew what ‘stress’ and ‘anxiety’ were.
About 2005 I got really sick with some kind of stomach thing (at least thats what I thought) Doctors did all sorts of test and finally settled on acid reflux. wtf? Well along the same time this was going on (hey it was at least a year or so) I would be getting these sensations in the chest and tensing in the limbs and an overall sensation that perhaps I was dying. Even went to the ER once. After many EKG and stress tests I was introduced to the term anxiety. I didn’t really pay to much attention at the time when they gave me Prozac (Fluoxetine) and was supposed to take it every day (I didnt). A change in insurance and new doctor and they even gave me another pill to take when symptoms started. Never took it, was afraid of it making my stomach upset.
Well come around Jan 2010 I made that momentous decision to quit the day job and do the studio full time. Of course that meant no insurance and the meds so ran out. But I was actually feeling better without it seemed. Id have a few episodes now and then but would typically just push through and they would fade away.
2011 the episodes seem to have been increasing and lasting longer and more intense. I even grabbed for that bottle of pills they gave me last year, lorazepam. then it was almost everyday, all day.
I started doing lots of reading this time, self helps, diets, breathing. I got started on a lot but were not helping to much so I finally set an appointment with the doctor. She recommend me to start Lexapro and gave me 2 weeks of samples.
And thats where this blog started…
Since the blog has started I have gone through several anxiety meds, doctors appointments and tests. Besides General Anxiety Disorder I have been diagnosed with Barretts Esophagus and now Fibromyalgia. Im keeping this blog going to record my thoughts, what Im doing to help and perhaps just general life. More of a record for me but also if anyone is going through the some of the same things maybe it will help them. If you stumble upon this site and want to chime in please leave a comment somewhere, love to hear from you. I’ll even consider guest posts from those that have a story to tell.
